Buyer’s Flea Market Four Alarm Fire Chicago West Side
by Kathy Brocks 03/08/2016
A 4 Alarm fire Photographed by Josh Boyajian, Tim Olk, Daniel Schell and Paul Biasco, DNAinfo media, this morning at the Buyer’s Flea Market devastated the west side community of West Humboldt park. The Buyer’s Flea Market is at 4545 West Division Chicago Illinois. Local businesses noticed smoke and several people running out of the building around 9:40 am today. Cars parked on the roof of the flea market fell into the roof of the burning building. Cars underneath the structure caught fire shooting flames out of the openings of the building on the ground level. This brutal blaze almost took the life of a woman trapped in the bathroom. A Chicago Fire fighter rescued the woman. The woman refused additional treatment beyond immediate care. It is unclear if any of the vendors or employees are undocumented workers. The Chicago Fire Department ordered all fire fighters out of the building due to the increasing danger of the structure becoming unstable.
The Buyer’s Flea Market held about 4000 vendors who sold food, clothing and household items. The rooftop parking area held 1100 spaces with two additional locations for parking. The contract between the Buyer’s Flea Market owner and the vendors stated that all outside vendors must take their merchandise with them upon close of business.
The inside vendors are offered space and storage at an additional cost. The Buyer’s Flea Market is so popular and successful it has a vendor space waiting list. The flea market doors only opened on Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
It is not known whether any of the vendors had insurance on their inventory as is a norm for business owners and entrepreneurs. It is also not clear whether or not the Buyer’s Flea Market owner’s insurance will be in effect due to the inspection failures from 2014. The DNAinfo online Chicago edition news media also reported that the Buyer’s Flea Market did have plans for making repairs.
Photos reveal the horror of the loss of 500 families in this community. Some reported losses estimated at $25,000. It is too early to know the cause of the fire and whether or not the Buyer’s Flea Market Owner will rebuild the Flea Market.
The State of Illinois lists the Buyer’s Flea Market owner as Gregory Morand and agent Lee R Bookman. The Buyer’s Flea Market began some 35 years ago in 1980 with only 8 vendors. The National Association of Flea Markets statistics states there are 1100 registered flea markets with traffic flow of 150 million people making purchases yearly exceeding $30 billion in sales.
ACAW Media will keep you updated on the progress and options for the entrepreneurs of the Buyer’s Flea Market.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DCHHS Confirms Mosquito Samples Test Positive for West Nile
Ground Spraying Scheduled in Coppell
DALLAS (June 26, 2017) – Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS) laboratory confirmed mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile virus. The mosquito trap was collected from the 75019 zip code of Coppell.
DCHHS encourages residents in affected areas to be a part of the solution by eliminating insect breeding areas and larvae before mosquitoes reach the airborne stage. In conjunction with Dallas County municipalities, mosquito abatement teams are responding by treating areas and ground spraying is currently scheduled.
Mosquito spraying schedule, weather permitting:
Tuesday, June 27 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Wednesday, June 28 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Residents should remain inside during the time sprayers are in the area. Spraying will not be conducted in the event of wind speeds in excess of 10 mph or inclement weather.
Residents should use the 4Ds to reduce exposure to mosquitoes:
Standing water can be treated with EPA-approved larvicides that are available for retail purchase. Larvicides are products used to kill immature mosquitoes before they become adults. Larvicides are applied directly to water sources that hold mosquito eggs, larvae, or pupae. When used well, larvicides can help reduce the overall mosquito burden by limiting the number of mosquitoes that are produced, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
DCHHS has information regarding mosquito prevention on its website.

Pastor Roy Allen ” Healing coming to Chicago”
Thursday, June 15, 2017, Pastor Roy Allen and his team hit the streets of the Westside of Chicago, Illinois praying for anyone in need of comfort. Pastor Allen shared on social media that people gave their hearts to Jesus. This means to acknowledge a life of sin, denounce it and decide to change with the help of Jesus. It is a verbal covenant or commitment of faith, belief in Jesus Christ. Pastor Allen’s social media page shows postings of residents giving their lives to Christ. Pastor Allen Facebook posting also says, “Jesus Said He Will Heal This Chicago, His People”. This healing promise appears to be the motivating factor for going into an area known for its violence. Although the area is improving greatly, it’s known for its hardships and struggles. Healing is a long desired presence of the residents present and past. The latter is my testimony.
The scripture that refers to healing that is most relative is the one Former President Barack Obama often quoted 2008-2016, Psalms 147:3, “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” NIV . This scripture reaffirms that Jesus, God, is in control of all things. Most people acknowledge God in times of trouble to either blame or seek help. The Bible states that God blesses those that love, honor, bless or have faith in Him. When you read the Holy Bible with understanding, you can see book after book, that God did not cause the trauma but He does right the wrong. Because of sin, God demands honor. In layman term, God gives back what he gets. You can see this in the book of Samuel. The specific verse is 1 Samuel 2:6-7,
1 Samuel 2:6-7
6 “The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. 7 The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts.
But to get the full grasp of this, you need to read at least read all of chapter 2 which is titled Hannah’s prayer, ” Hannah’s Prayer
1 Then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in the LORD; in the LORD my horn is lifted high. My mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in your deliverance. 2 “There is no one holy like the LORD; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God. 3 “Do not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance, for the LORD is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed. 4 “The bows of the warriors are broken, but those who stumbled are armed with strength. 5 Those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who were hungry are hungry no more. She who was barren has borne seven children, but she who has had many sons pines away. 6 “The LORD brings death and makes alive; he brings down to the grave and raises up. 7 The LORD sends poverty and wealth; he humbles and he exalts. 8 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes and has them inherit a throne of honor. “For the foundations of the earth are the LORD’s; on them he has set the world. 9 He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. “It is not by strength that one prevails; 10 those who oppose the LORD will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven; the LORD will judge the ends of the earth. “He will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.” 11 Then Elkanah went home to Ramah, but the boy ministered before the LORD under Eli the priest.
Eli’s Wicked Sons
12 Eli’s sons were scoundrels; they had no regard for the LORD. 13 Now it was the practice of the priests that, whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled 14 and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to Shiloh. 15 But even before the fat was burned, the priest’s servant would come and say to the person who was sacrificing, “Give the priest some meat to roast; he won’t accept boiled meat from you, but only raw.” 16 If the person said to him, “Let the fat be burned first, and then take whatever you want,” the servant would answer, “No, hand it over now; if you don’t, I’ll take it by force.” 17 This sin of the young men was very great in the LORD’s sight, for they were treating the LORD’s offering with contempt. 18 But Samuel was ministering before the LORD—a boy wearing a linen ephod. 19 Each year his mother made him a little robe and took it to him when she went up with her husband to offer the annual sacrifice. 20 Eli would bless Elkanah and his wife, saying, “May the LORD give you children by this woman to take the place of the one she prayed for and gave to the LORD.” Then they would go home. 21 And the LORD was gracious to Hannah; she gave birth to three sons and two daughters. Meanwhile, the boy Samuel grew up in the presence of the LORD. 22 Now Eli, who was very old, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Israel and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 23 So he said to them, “Why do you do such things? I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours. 24 No, my sons; the report I hear spreading among the LORD’s people is not good. 25 If one person sins against another, God may mediate for the offender; but if anyone sins against the LORD, who will intercede for them?” His sons, however, did not listen to their father’s rebuke, for it was the LORD’s will to put them to death. 26 And the boy Samuel continued to grow in stature and in favor with the LORD and with people.
Prophecy Against the House of Eli
27 Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Did I not clearly reveal myself to your ancestor’s family when they were in Egypt under Pharaoh? 28 I chose your ancestor out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to go up to my altar, to burn incense, and to wear an ephod in my presence. I also gave your ancestor’s family all the food offerings presented by the Israelites. 29 Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?’ 30 “Therefore the LORD, the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the LORD declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained. 31 The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age, 32 and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age. 33 Every one of you that I do not cut off from serving at my altar I will spare only to destroy your sight and sap your strength, and all your descendants will die in the prime of life. 34 “ ‘And what happens to your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, will be a sign to you—they will both die on the same day. 35 I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always. 36 Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow down before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead, “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.” ’ ”
So, after reading this passage you can see Pastor Allen’s posting, “Jesus Said He Will Heal This Chicago, His People”, can be valid. But, I always caution you to seek out God for yourself. Build up your own relationship with God. Do not rely on constant prophecy from anyone. God is speaking to all men. Faith is required to hear, understand and hold on to what you understand so that you do not give up on your belief in times of trouble. Mark 4:9 is a good example, “9 Then Jesus said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” The word “hear” carries the meaning to “hold on”.
So, then the prayers of Pastor Allen is walking out the word of God’s declaration of deliverance. The thing is will the residents of the community hold on or cast healing back in the face of God like a man spits at his enemy. In other words, will residents hold peace like hate, excluding or love like Jesus? Who are you praying for today?
This Weekend in Review: The Inheritance
It’s a Yes!
Saturday I saw a musical reading of a stage play called “The Inheritance” written by
Monica Patton and Bobby Daye. Sonia Surratt is the director and Mahmoud Khan is the musical director. Premise: bastard daughter with chip on her shoulder returns home to a drug addict mother after the death of the matriarch.
The breakdown, Fania (Fa-ni-a)Bourn plays the daughter, Milla. Chawanya (Cha-wan-ya) Hayes plays Wilhelmina, upper crust drug addict mother; Renee Lockett is Louisa, the housemaid and long time friend of Milla’s grandmother; Gabriel Mudd is Leland, the nephew of Louisa and in love with his cousin Milla. Rodrigo Ignacio Cruz is Arnaud the married man Milla is scooting around in her bed. Anthony Turner is Tommy, the successful drug deal/addict boyfriend of Wilhelmina.
Ensemble cast, Adam Lasalle is Mr. FItzpatrick the lawyer; Erica Deloach is Violet, funny gospel singer and the 911 operator, Marc Rogers is Mr. Wellington Drummer is Christopher Singleton.
After the play completed the audience got to ask questions. So that the writers can determine what needs improvements.
The cast was very convincing. The audience was fully invested. We did get a bit thrown off by the song during the funeral scene. It wasn’t your typical sound, but it stole the scene. You could not help but to laugh.
Chawanya Hayes as WIlhelmina was so good, Most know Chawanya from her music. Fania Bourne as the angry 28-year-old in need of love truly showed why she got the lead. Makes me wish I had seen her in dream girls also. All of the actors were just a delight to watch.
We, the audience, genuinely liked this production. This is a good date night theatrical performance. Check with eta creative arts for a full production schedule.

President Obama FLY’s the W at the Whitehouse
President Obama welcomes our 2016 Chicago World Series to the White house, January 16, 2017. President Obama an openly Chicago Whitesox fan for life took this day, the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday celebration, to honor a team that fought hard in unity to achieve a victory long out of reach for 108 years. President Obama’s great humor brought smiles to the faces of the Chicago Cubs, press core and the over 4000 you tube watchers. This moment as President Obama recounted the play-by-play of the win sent me back to the moment of happy anxiety awaiting the moment that we all believed when Rizzo tossed the last ball of his career to seal the win. It was intense. Today , joy is the word. Just looking at all these men in class photo form smiling.
You remember when you would day-dream about being the world series champs and being celebrated by the president. You may have been in fourth grade, high school or college. Although, it was a rare dream which always happened to someone else, today its official, The Chicago Cubs are no longer dreaming. Our 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series Champions are the heroes of little kids in Chicago and all over the world. The cool thing about the Cubs is they are not just heroes on the field, they also give back to others by volunteering over 1400 hours this past year. #FlyW
IDOT asks “drive safely”
The Illinois Department of Transportation, IDOT, salted the streets last night in preparation of the expected weather causing icy streets. Although the temperatures are in the 20’s and near 30’s and above with humidity of 66% with an actual feeling of 12 degrees. The up and down temps causes the snowfall to melt and freeze which forms ice on the roads. IDOT asks that resident and visitors be careful while driving down the highways, streets and parking lots.
Our crews were out overnight pretreating roads and bridges. Be alert for icy conditions through the weekend. #ilwx pic.twitter.com/6BIb3TxZ7n

President Obama gives Biden Medal of Freedom award
“Glad I can say I was a part of this presidency” direct quote from Biden. President Obama awards Vice President Biden the the Medal of freedom.
Vice President Biden chokes backs tears giving thank you speech. Lauding praise over President Obama and Michelle. Biden heralds Michelle as the best first lady among many. Biden says although he gets to be the last voice in Obama’s ear on major decisions, ultimately Obama made the decisions and did it well. Biden exclaims the pleasure of watching a finely tuned mind at work in President Obama.
Biden quotes Irish Poet Seamus Heaaney-“you carried your own burden and very soon your creeping symptom of privilege disappear.”
and says”I know i do not deserve this honor, this is from the generosity of your spirit.” Meaning out of the generosity of President Obama. Biden also received a Gold Medal of Freedom award from the President of Kosovo Fatmir Sejdiu in May 21, 2009
